The LanguageCulture Online Institute
|
Organization The LanguageCulture Online Institute is a private, independent, educational association of multilingual instructors, coaches and assistants that supports and provides language-specific, on-line or on-site health care interpreter training programs.
Mission The LanguageCulture Institute's mission is to assist post-secondary institutions, including community colleges and community-based organizations in their effort to train culturally competent and linguistically proficient health care interpreters.
Goal The LanguageCulture Institute seeks to become a nationally recognized developer and provider of multi-language online labs, coaching and a variety of educational resources for health care interpreter training programs that promote proficiency, literacy and competence in a student's language and culture of service.
Philosophy The LanguageCulture Institute subscribes to the notion that health care interpreting is an act of intercultural communication, and as such, training and education programs for health care interpreters should include to any possible extent a formal experiential and simultaneous approach to the development of interlinguistic and intercultural communication skills. The professional skills of an interpreter in one language or culture are equally as important as the other(s).
